Rioja’s Bodegas LAN’s motivation to expand into other regions in Spain resulted in the Marqués de Burgos project in Ribera de Duero. After a very thorough search in the appellation, the Marques of Burgos selected the village of Quintana del Pidio while on a hot-air balloon flight. He was impressed by the beauty of the vineyards along the Duero River, which has an extraordinary altitude that permits the production of wines of great character. These ancient vines produce very low yields of grapes, giving rise to wines with big concentration, intense colour and smooth tannins. This Tempranillo is a great example, with ample fruitiness, notes of elegant ageing, and a velvety texture. This nose is very expressive, presenting aromas of cherries and red berries and plum. Its ageing in French Oak also gives it toasty notes of chocolate and herbs. Full-bodied and fleshy, with balanced, juicy tannins. Enjoy now or over the next few years with caseroles and cured cheeses such as manchego.
